OnePlus director Pete Lau states that the upcoming OnePlus 6T smartphone does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, because the manufacturer wanted to make room for the fingerprint scanner. This is located at the new smartphone behind the screen.

According to Lau, integrating the fingerprint scanner behind the screen requires more space at the bottom of the OnePlus 6T, he reports during an interview with Cnet . As a result, there would be no more space for the 3.5 mm connection. Lau calls this one of the ‘hardest decisions’ he had to make.

Another reason for omitting the headphone jack is OnePlus’ finding that in a user survey within the ‘OnePlus community’ 59 percent of the respondents indicated using wireless bluetooth earphones or headphones. The step to remove the analogue audio port is noticeable, because until six months ago the smartphone manufacturer said that a large majority of users appreciated the presence of a 3.5 mm jack and that it would therefore continue .

The OnePlus 6T was already clear that it gets a fingerprint scanner behind the screen , unlike the OnePlus 6, with the scanner on the back. The fact that the 3.5 mm jack disappears was also clear already. OnePlus presents the 6T probably on 17 October; this date appeared on a screenshot of the manufacturer last month. Renders also appeared on the phone several times.
