OnePlus brings Stage Fright patch for OS Oxygen

OnePlus has released a patch to fix the notorious Stage Fright bug in the Android operating system. The fix is only for the versions of the smartphone daaien One-on-Oxygen OS. It is unclear whether the patch completely solves the problem.

The patch is publicized by OnePlus made on his forum, where the manufacturer advises its users to manually install the software. An over-the-air update does not seem to get there: From the factory the OnePlus One smartphone was in fact released with CyanogenMod and Oxygen OS ROM is not certified. It is likely that the upcoming OnePlus 2, which was recently announced and standard OS runs on Oxygen, is already equipped with the release of the patch.

It is unclear whether the patch released by OnePlus provides complete protection against the Stage Fright bug. The Chinese manufacturer gives no details of how it has solved the vulnerability. Previously found that a patch released by Google does not offer sufficient protection against the Stage Fright bug. A security company discovered that the vulnerability is still abuse. Google has already sent a second patch to its hardware partners, but it is unclear whether there OnePlus can already make use of.

For OnePlus One running CyanogenMod users there is the possibility to remedy the Stage Fright bug by installing a nightly; in version 12.1 of the software, the problem should be solved. It is unclear whether OnePlus still delivers an over-the-air update as soon as a final version, but this is quite likely.
