Oppo announces 5g smartphone and camera module with 10x optical zoom’
Oppo has announced a smartphone camera module with 10x optical zoom. The module consists of an ultra-wide angle lens, a 48-megapixel camera and a telephoto lens. Furthermore, the Chinese company announces its first 5g phone.

The focal length of the 120-degree ultra-wide angle lens is 16 mm and that of the telephoto lens is 160 mm. Normally, according to Oppo, this would mean that the camera module would be 15mm thick. To counter this, the Chinese company has made a periscope construction. The lens construction ‘lies’ in the telephone, instead of being ‘standing’. With a prism the incoming light is directed around a corner and reaches the lenses. This module is 6.76mm thick.

In order to preserve the sharpness, the telephoto lens and the ultra wide-angle lens both have optical image stabilization on board. Presumably the 48-megapixel camera has that too. The smartphone maker states that the image stabilization is 73 percent better than with the prototypes of his 5x optical zoom prototypes, which incidentally never appeared on the market.

Oppo has not mentioned a specific device where the camera module will appear, but states that it will be in an Oppo phone that will be released in the second quarter of this year. The company announces the announcement at a press conference in the framework of the Mobile World Congress, which is in progress at the time of writing.

The moment of announcement of the camera module
Furthermore, Oppo has announced its first 5g smartphone. Very little has been published about this. What has been reported is that he uses a Snapdragon 855 chipset . It reaches 5g peak speeds of 5Gbit / s, but does not support all the main frequency bands that will be used worldwide for 5g. The successor to this modem, the Qualcomm X55, does . There is no release date for this 5g smartphone from Oppo, but since the successor of this chipset on the market by the end of the year should come, it is somewhat plausible that this phone in any case before that time on the shelves.
