Orange takes over cloud service provider Basefarm

Orange takes over cloud provider Basefarm for an amount of 350 million euros. The French telecom company wants to strengthen its position in the cloud services sector.

Basefarm logo Orange says that with the acquisition of Basefarm, among other things, it can significantly expand its services around big data and critical application management . The company reports that the takeover will ensure that it can offer its services geographically even wider in Europe. Orange wants to become a leading player in the field of cloud services in Europe.

Basefarm, based in Norway, specializes in cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence services. The company employs a total of 550 people and is active in, among others, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria and Germany.

Orange already took over the company Business & Decision and the team of the French telecom company that deals with cloud computing counts 1600 employees without the 550 employees of Basefarm. Basefarm is integrated with the Orange Business Services component.

Whether the acquisition can actually continue depends on the approval of the relevant national competition authorities, which may also include the European Commission. Orange reports that the acquisition is expected to be completed this summer.
