Overwatch Preview – Blizzard makes a shooter




A little drama is Chris Metzen not strange. Blizzard is working on Overwatch, a game set in an entirely new universe, where no Evil Orc, Zerg or Prime is found. That might not be the most exciting part of the game. Blizzard sticks with Overwatch really the neck. Overwatch plays not only take place in a new world, Blizzard also ventures with the game to a new genre. Overwatch is a shooter, a game mode where the studio it has hardly any experience. Only StarCraft: Ghost was a shooter, but that game never reached the store. Its development was discontinued because Blizzard did not like the game well enough. Mainly Ghost supervision, while most of the work was done by Nihilistic and Swingin ‘Ape Studios: In addition Blizzard had with Starcraft. This is different from Overwatch. This is a shooter that is entirely their own case.

New genre

Jeff Kaplan, the lead designer of the game, is the first to admit that Blizzard has little experience with shooters. However, he sees no objection. During the development of World of Warcraft sounded similar criticism. Blizzard had no experience with a tricky genre MMOG and fingers could better not to burn it. The studio wants to make a shooter that is easy to grab it. A game that does not conform to the adage that the studio for all his games uses: easy to learn, hard to master.
