Overwatch Preview – Blizzard makes a shooter
A little drama is Chris Metzen not strange. The man who Blizzard is responsible for the stories in all the different games had the honor to be the announcement of where it during Blizzcon 2014 is all about. All And although Metzen puts like a sob in his message, he seemed really tense during this time his story. Not surprising, since he had the honor to announce that Blizzard has done something unusual. For the first time since 1998, the studio ventures into uncharted territory and he makes a game that has nothing to do with Warcraft, Diablo and StarCraft.
Blizzard is working on Overwatch, a game set in an entirely new universe, where no Evil Orc, Zerg or Prime is found. That might not be the most exciting part of the game. Blizzard sticks with Overwatch really the neck. Overwatch plays not only take place in a new world, Blizzard also ventures with the game to a new genre. Overwatch is a shooter, a game mode where the studio it has hardly any experience. Only StarCraft: Ghost was a shooter, but that game never reached the store. Its development was discontinued because Blizzard did not like the game well enough. Mainly Ghost supervision, while most of the work was done by Nihilistic and Swingin ‘Ape Studios: In addition Blizzard had with Starcraft. This is different from Overwatch. This is a shooter that is entirely their own case.
Jeff Kaplan, the lead designer of the game, is the first to admit that Blizzard has little experience with shooters. However, he sees no objection. During the development of World of Warcraft sounded similar criticism. Blizzard had no experience with a tricky genre MMOG and fingers could better not to burn it. By now, World of Warcraft decade and is the most successful MMOG ever. That is, think Kaplan, by the method which uses Blizzard invariably; choose an existing genre and try to improve. The latter usually comes down to simplify, or at least on the accessibility of the genre. That worked at a tricky genre MMOG and that seems to be working again with Heroes of the Storm, the Moba game that Blizzard has in production. With Overwatch Blizzard tries the same. The studio wants to make a shooter that is easy to grab it. A game that does not conform to the adage that the studio for all his games uses: easy to learn, hard to master.Viewing:-156
