OwnCloud developers build better support for large installations




The developers of ownCloud on Tuesday released a new version of the open source storage system. The latest version includes numerous enhancements, which are particularly interesting for administrators. So there is better support for larger installations.

So ownCloud 8.1 should make it easier for administrators to deal with larger installations. On their blog writing ownCloud developers which servers should now fifty percent more users with the same hardware to be able than was the case with the previous version. Furthermore, the open source software must rapper multiple files can sync up to four times as fast as before.

In order to reduce the delay of the storage system, specific functions for external storage administrators can set up separately. These include the support for thumbnails, cache files and encryption. Regarding encryption ownCloud 8.1 now includes separate modules.
