Panasonic Lumix GH5 Preview – Impressive video topper photo jacket

GH cameras from Panasonic have built up a good reputation in recent years. It started with the GH1, which was introduced in 2009 as a video-optimized camera, while the G1, the world’s first system camera, was more for photo enthusiasts. GH series is especially popular among amateur videographers who want to create professional-looking productions with a budget, but is also used by professionals, either as a second, mobile camera.

At first glance the GH5 does its good reputation. GH4 was the first camera with support for 4k, the GH5 there doing a step further with a range of new features, such as 60fps at 4K, 180fps at 1080p and a 6k-picture mode. Although the focus is increasingly on video, the camera is also fine to use for photography purposes. It seems to be an ideal all-round camera, thus especially interesting for people who are both filming and photographing.

Panasonic’s flagship model comes only in late March on the market, but we were there for two days to get started in Frankfurt, home of the annual Panasonic Convention. In this preview look at what aspects of this brand new camera impression on us.
