Panasonic Unveils Direct Drive Turntable Technics SL1200G

Panasonic at CES 2016 two new SL-1200 turntables announced with direct drive control. The reintroduction of the particularly among DJs known SL1200 series comes in two phases. First comes the limited edition made SL1200GAE and later in 2016 the SL1200G.

Panasonic makes with the new models using a direct drive mechanism that is supposed to stop cogging: small vibrations of the engine and fluctuations of the speed. The motor contains no iron core, deprives such torque ripples should be avoided. In addition, a system of sensors and a microprocessor must detect and cancel any remaining vibrations.

Previously described Panasonic the operation of the direct drive mechanism al., The rotor hereby consists of two discs with magnets that create a magnetic field in the axial direction and between which a stator coil is located.

The housing of the rotary tables is made up of brass and aluminum, with a top layer of rubber. The arm is connected to the SL-1200GAE of magnesium and in the SL-1200G of aluminum. The attachment and the pivot point of the tonearm have remained identical to that of the original SL1200 series, including the gimbal.

Both turntables, Panasonic under the Grand Class line-out. The SL1200GAE comes this summer in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the Technics brand out in a limited and numbered edition of twelve pieces. The SL1200G comes later in 2016 in larger editions. Prices are not yet known.

Panasonic focuses on the new Technics SL1200-line vinyl lovers and DJs. Among this group, the SL1200, whose production began in the seventies, legendary for their stability and longevity. Production of SL1200 models ceased in 2010, but according to Panasonic, the demand for analog turntables and ditto music again, especially in the European, North American countries and Japan.
