Park in New York settled unseen organisms

Soil microbes that live in deserts, forests and steppes, can be found in Central Park in New York. The researchers were surprised to find in a city park are thousands of different microbes . The most interesting is that many of them unknown to science.

Only 8,5-16,2 percent of soil microorganisms found in the park in New York, entered into a database that describes the microbial life.

We found thousands of different organisms, of which we know little. We do not have names or any other information on them. We also do not know in what conditions they like to live, and what effect they have on the ground, – reported the discovery study author Noah Fierer of the University of Colorado at Boulder (USA).

After analyzing 596 soil samples collected throughout the park area of over 300 hectares, the research team found “a tremendous variety of underground organisms”, many of which have never been documented, the British newspaper Daily Mail. It covers the soil microbial diversity around the world, from hot deserts to cold arctic regions.

The study was published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the Royal Society.

If you want to find a unique variety of underground organisms, then you do not need to go on a world tour. Just walk through Central Park – suggested Firer.

Species of plants and animals that can live in a particular biome, are largely determined by climatic conditions. Underground microbes, on the contrary, are more interested in ground conditions, such as acidity or soil carbon stocks. This allows microbial communities abound where there is a variety of soil conditions.

Meanwhile in Amsterdam opened the world’s first microbial zoo. Its exhibits are impressive .
