PC market: sales slump fifth consecutive quarter
Analyst firm IDC analyzed the results for the second quarter of 2013 year and has reported on the deteriorating situation in the PC market.
Recall that in the first quarter of this year, the decline in PC shipments reached a record 13.9 percent . It should be noted that in some regions, such as Europe, the situation is even worse – a decline of about 23 percent. In the second quarter, the situation has not changed, the PC market continues to decline.
According to a new report from IDC, in the second quarter of 2013 the PC market worldwide fell by 11 percent compared to the same period last year. This state of affairs is due a significant fall in sales in Europe and China, as well as pressure from tablets and smartphones.
It is worth noting that in the U.S., things are not so bad. Here, sales fell by only 1.9 percent compared to the same period last year, which can be regarded as a significant improvement, especially if you take into account the two-time decline in the last three quarters.
This reduction affected all five first-tier manufacturers. Most of all losses suffered Taiwanese company ASUS and Acer. That’s why ASUS has changed its course towards hybrid tablets and ultrabooks, which have been shown during Computex 2013 .
Despite the fact that the Chinese company Lenovo sales decreased by 1.4 percent compared to the same period last year, she was able to shake off first-place HP, and its share was 16.7 percent.
HP’s managed to ship 12.4 million on the market, which is one million less than last year. HP sales fell by 7.7 percent, and its share in the second quarter of this year was 16.4 percent.
Dell is in the top three. The American manufacturer has to ship to market 9.2 million computers. Its share is 12.2 percent.
As mentioned above, have been hit hardest by ASUS and Acer – their sales declined by 21.1 and 32.6 percent respectively. In the second quarter the share of ASUS and Acer were 6.1 and 8.2 percent respectively.
