Pebble adds fitness tracking to Time-smart watches
Pebble firmware 3.8 for its Time-smart watches released. The software update adds to Pebble Health, which steps and sleep activity can be measured. Pebble will start in 2016 the Health api also open to developers.
By “personal successes’ Pebble wants to encourage its users to stay active. Instead of aiming for a fixed number of steps, carriers of the smart watch can measure their progress daily on the basis of their personal average. Health statistics are integrated into the timeline at the Pebble watches and can also be displayed in the app.
According to the makers is Pebble Health developed in collaboration with researchers from the Wearable Health lab at Stanford University. By transparently the ‘right’ to make data available to the researchers must be able to perform better studies. How and what data is being shared exactly is not clear from the wording of Pebble.
Pebble Health is compatible with Google and Apple Fit HealthKit. Pebble also wants developers to get started with health and therefore represents the beginning of 2016 an api available. Allows the creation of applications and watch faces using the data gathered by Pebble Health.
Firmware: 3.8 is available for the Pebble Time, Time Steel and Time Round. Older versions of the smart watch not get Pebble Health. However, on Tuesday released an update to the Pebble and Pebble Steel Classic which adds the timeline and raises the limit of eight apps or watch faces.
