Petition for preservation Xs4all brand name receives thousands of signatures

Partly in view of the negative reactions on the internet and in the media, Verdel seems ‘unlikely that KPN will continue the intended change of course’. KPN announced Thursday morning that the brand names Xs4all and Telfort disappear. She points out that Xs4all is a strong brand that has built up a good name with quality and service and that achieved good results in tests such as those of the Consumers Association.

On the internet, many people who have often been customers for more than twenty years indicate that they are canceling their subscription. Among them is Karin Spaink , who has a long history with the provider, among other things because of the lawsuits that Scientology against her and the ISP incited texts she put on her Xs4all site in 1995. In the final statement in the long-running case, in 2005, Xs4all handed out t-shirts with her name.

Marleen Stikker also stopped being a customer after 26 years. She calls it stopping the name ‘a capital mistake’. Stikker was the basis of De Digitale Stad, a platform that formed the first steps on the internet for many Dutch people. “January 15th we celebrate with Xs4all that 25 years ago the Digital City was opened, what a timing for KPN”, she writes .

Many people point to the focus on privacy and security that Xs4all has had in its history. KPN took over the provider in 1998, but Xs4all would have remained an independent entity within KPN ever since.
