Philips takes medical equipment manufacturer for over 1 billion




Philips takes an amount of approximately $ 1 billion US company Volcano. Volcano is a US manufacturer of medical equipment. The company will be included in the health division of Philips.

Volcano makes medical equipment used in vascular surgery. For example, the business monitoring and imaging equipment that can be delivered via a catheter into the body. By means of ultrasound, images can be obtained. This allows surgeons perform operations with greater accuracy and less need to cut. This reduces the risk of complications.

Philips puts $ 1.2 billion, about 1 billion euros, down for the American group. At Volcano employs about 1,800 people and the company has an annual revenue of $ 400 million, or 320 million euros.

Volcano is included in the health division of Philips and is part of a new business unit that focuses on imaging equipment that is used during surgery. Meanwhile the health division is the most important part of the Philips group. The annual turnover of the division amounted to € 9.5 billion, accounting for 40 percent of total sales.
