Playing video games improves cognitive functions’




It improves playing action video games, and changes the structure of certain regions in the brain that have to do with the system that controls eye-hand coordination. It appears that in-game experts in contrast to amateurs these brain areas have better connections.

That stands in a Scientific Report of Nature. That action video game players have better cognitive function than those who do not play avg, was already known, so the researchers tested the difference between amateurs and professionals or “experts.”

The study looked at MRI on how a particular brain region behaves with 27 experts and 30 amateurs. Experts were people who played six years or more League of Legends and known as regional or national champion. The thirty amateurs had less than one year of experience.

It turned out that the connections in the insula or island of Reil, the area associated with the convergence of sensory stimulation and cognitive skills were enhanced or improved by the experts. The amount of gray fabric was also greater in the experts. Gray matter is the part of the central nervous system which is required to process information quickly.
