Plextor Announces mSATA SSD M6M series for laptops
Plextor has new solid state drives released in M6M series that feature an mSATA connector. The M6M-SSDs are available in capacities from 128GB to 512GB, and should be more 14k IOPS achieved by random reads than their predecessors.
The M6M-solid state drives have a Marvell 88SS9188 processor, according to Plextor a controller chip ‘server class’. The flash is coming from Toshiba, while Plextor firmware used self developed. The firmware would include being able to secure with True Protect data protection algorithms and 256bit AES encryption data.
According to the Plextor M6M-SSDs achieve sequential read and write speeds of 520MB / s and 440MB / s respectively. The number of IOPS would have risen to 96kiops at random read operations. 14k compared with the previous generation of In random writes specifies Plextor 80kiops.
The compact dimensions of the M6M and mSATA connections should make the SSD especially interesting for very thin notebooks and tablets., With a consumption of only 2mW in sleep mode and resume time of 100ms, The M6M models are available from the second quarter, with storage capacities of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
