Polder Pioneers – Luc Steels – The quest for intelligent machines




In episode four of Polder Pioneers have featured Luc Steels. We spoke to him in Brussels, where he early eighties the Artificial Intelligence Lab founded. Since there for that time hardly targeted research on this matter in Europe, he is regarded as the founder of the study of artificial intelligence in Europe.

Steels contributes with his knowledge on numerous projects, including the timetable for the automatic metro in Belgium. One of the best known consumer applications is the underlying system of AIBO, the robotic dog that Sony announced in 1998. Steels even now working on research into artificial intelligence.
