Popcorn Time variant considering integration with I2P anonymizing network
The makers of a variant of Popcorn Time to consider using the I2P anonymization network. This would be users of the P2P video application better anonymity must offer alongside current VPN option. The authors also want to offer the meta information locally.
That says Android Planet based on an interview with one of the creators of Popcorn Time, offering their version of the P2P streaming application via the domain popcorn-time.se. The anonymous developer says that the developers are regularly ‘attacked’ by copyright watchdogs and that they therefore want to take some steps to anonymize themselves and users.
One of the steps would facilitate the mobilization of the I2P protocol to anonymize the P2P data exchange between peers. I2P provides about the same capabilities as Tor to mask the IP address of an uploader or downloader, but it is unclear yet whether the Protocol by the various anonymity succeed is fast enough to stream video. However, the creators of this Popcorn Time variant think that’s possible and consider integrating I2P in the client software. This should at the same time solve the problem of the often congested vpn-Popcorn Time function in the client.
Besides possibly using I2P also examine metadata, such as covers and movie subtitle files can be stored in shared P2P users. This should prevent copyright watchdogs get the current servers with this content from the air, making Popcorn Hour unusable. How this is implemented exactly is not yet clear, but the decentralized storage of metadata should be available before applying I2P.Viewing:-264
