Portable Hi-End: Bluetooth speaker Philips Fidelio P9
Philips is considered to be the pioneer of the consumer electronics market in general and solutions for music in particular. It is not surprising that they are not left behind on the topic of mobile audio systems for the modern gadgets. About a couple of these solutions segment of the budget, namely Soundshooter and ShoqBox wrote AppleInsider. But it is not only budget solutions are needed in this segment of the market, so today we look at a portable Bluetooth sound system a top series Fidelio P9.
Fidelio range, the company is very interesting. It combines diverse enough food docking station, wireless speakers with Bluetooth and Air Play, headphones, has 5 models, ( L1, we surveyed by AppleInsider ), a sound system for your home theater system. All these products combine two basic features: the love of the sound that is expected, and the love of style that is rare. In our time, for some reason few solutions in the areas of audio, the design of which is of paramount design. And the design is not in the fashionable nowadays vyrviglazno-plastic-futuristic way, and more discreet, such that it is not pleased tineyzhdera 15 years, and adults 30 years of age. In the case Fidelio P9, as in the case of Fidelio L1 could be created.

Box Traditional Series Fidelio: thick cardboard with a picture of the device colors – mostly black and brown. My box was pretty worn during the delivery, but in a new form, it looks more than fine. Inside the column, and is itself made of beige cardboard box (all cherish nature!) In this box – manual and power supply with interchangeable plugs for different countries. It would be desirable, of course, to see the complete audio cable with a 3.5 mm jack, but what is not – is not.
Column itself looks expensive. The combination of leather, perforated aluminum and wood on the ends – at once evokes positive emotions: simple, stylish. Commands respect and weight: 1.3 kg. To my test model came, made in dark colors, but there is a reverse version with silver aluminum side panels and light.
Leather cover fixed on the rear side and bottom covers P9 and the front surface. The front flap is fixed magnet as a Smart Cover, and as Smart Cover, for closing off the device to save energy. Throwing back the cover, you can use it as a stand, adjusting the angle of Fidelio P9. Due to the material and the considerable weight of the column is very reliable.
Connection is possible via Bluetooth and with a 3.5-mm connector: it covers 99% of the needs. No complaints on the work of the wireless connection I have: instant connection, the connection is stable.
Management minimalist – only 4 buttons located on top: the inclusion, volume control and a button to temporarily turn off the sound. To see the charge, it is necessary to touch the column at the top end is the battery meter in the form of four white LEDs that light up and show the status of the battery.
The left side has audio input and charger on the right – USB-connector. Incredibly comfortable “trick»: Fidelio P9 can charge devices connected via USB, mostly, of course, we are talking about smart phones and iPods, but as supported by the charging current up to 1 amp, then you can charge the iPad. Judging by the reviews on the web, iPhone can be charged 3 times.
The column is very small, little more than the iPad, so facing the engineers task: to place in a decent amount of sound – clearly not a simple one. Since Fidelio refers to the Hi-Fi segment did not skimp here. Use two-way scheme in which the high and low frequencies are separate speakers.
High-frequency speakers (tweeters) use developed by Philips back in the 1960s, the technology of soft dome. This reduces distortion at high frequency and the sound becomes clearer and bigger in size.
For the reproduction of low frequencies used by two woofers per channel, as well as a large mass of passive radiator (the proprietary wOOx). Due to the large mass of the radiator is obtained to achieve the reproduction of low frequencies without distortion, typical for small portable systems.
All of this is provided with a good amp and a specially designed crossover that allows P9 play well at any volume – from quiet to very loud.
Of course, a purely physical constraints on the sound caused by the size of the column, and P9 compared with full speakers unreasonable, but Philips have tried to do everything possible to avoid this. Deep, well-controlled bass gives the music a charge of drive and energy, and well-defined mids can reveal the main instruments and vocals. If you close your eyes to the size, you can certainly find fault with the lack of high-frequency, but to do that frankly do not want to.
The sound of music and warm, for this size, it is also surprisingly very extensive, there is a good stereo. The volume level is available, it is more than enough room for regular size or a picnic in the forest.
A typical solution series Fidelio. At Philips moving towards the isolation of the products Fidelio series in its own niche, and P9 – it fits well. Then there is the road design, using good materials and a little reminiscent of the 70’s audio equipment. Then there are corporate drayvovy sound, to the same extent and inherent headphones line. Then there are lots of nice little things such as the possibility of charging a mobile phone. Value column is approximately $ 300 on the one hand a lot, but on the other hand, P9 – justifies its 120%.
