Postage Jolla Sailfish OS to FairPhone 2

FairPhone works with developers to bring Jolla Sailfish OS to the FairPhone 2. Some developers of the Sailfish OS community have already prototypes in use. Technical support comes time being.

“The aim of the collaboration with Jolla is to offer the full Sailfish OS directly to our customers,” says Olivier Hebert, CTO of FairPhone. According to him, a large part of the users have been interested in a port of Sailfish OS to the FairPhone 2.

Sailfish OS developers are now working on a bare version of the mobile operating system stable to run on the devices. Afterwards Jolla specific services should be added, but how long that will last is unknown.

The FairPhone two runs natively Fair Phone OS, which is based on Android 5.1. For which software the company also continues to provide support. Because of the limited amount of manpower is support for Sailfish OS not in it, says Hebert.

The port is part of the strategy of FairPhone to ensure fairer software. Earlier it was before that a development of Fair Phone OS announced. Developers have access to the open source code, dev tools and binary blobs to make their own version of their software.
