The Walking Dead has been canceled
Sony has returned gamers who had ordered the PlayStation 4 version of Overkill’s The Walking Dead for their money, because the game would have been canceled. Publisher 505 Games denies that and says that the game is still being worked on.

A buyer of the game placed the message he received from PlayStation Store on Reddit. It states that the publisher of Overkill’s The Walking Dead told Sony that the game has been canceled. People who have ordered the game ahead will therefore receive their money back.

Publisher 505 Games denies that in a message on Twitter. According to the publisher, the console version is only postponed and will be released at a later date. Developer Starbreeze has not yet responded. In January, the release of the console version was postponed to an as yet unknown date.

The co-op zombie game came out last November for the PC and did not bring the desired success. The game has a Metascore of 51 ; the user reviews on Steam are divided . The game has been postponed several times in the past and would initially come out in 2016 . Along with the PC version, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions should have been released. In the past summer it was announced that the console releases would only come out in February. In January, Starbreeze said it would not be able to release the game on that date, without mentioning a new date.

Developer Starbreeze is in financial hard weather due to the disappointing revenues of the zombie game. Thursday , the Swedish company announced to the court in Stockholm more time to ask for the restructuring what it is doing. Recently the developer sold the publishing rights of System Shock 3 back to the developer to raise money.

At the end of January , Eurogamer wrote an extensive article about the ‘fall’ of Starbreeze and the perils surrounding the development of Overkill’s The Walking Dead. The game is based on the comic series that formed the basis for the successful TV series The Walking Dead. Overkill Software, a Starbreeze studio, produces the game.
