Qualcomm announced how much money Apple owed her

Legal proceedings between Apple and Qualcomm have been going on for years. Things reached the point that Intel was the main supplier of communication modules for the iPhone. The reason for these events were Apple’s complaints that Qualcomm was abusing its leading position in the market and deliberately overpriced its licenses. Apple has stopped paying royalties to it, and now its debt to Qualcomm is constantly growing. According to Reuters, the size of the debt has already reached quite large amounts.

It is reported that at the moment, the iPhone manufacturer must pay its former partner more than 7 billion dollars. Legal proceedings between companies may last for several more years, so before the final judicial verdict the amount of debt may reach inconceivable.

Apple representatives are confident and do not intend to pay the required money. In addition to being charged with over-licensing, they are confident that Qualcomm is asking for money even for those patents that are not used in any of the Apple devices. In response, Qualcomm representatives say that the company from Cupertino is simply seeking to lower prices for communication modules.

In July 2018, Qualcomm already suffered some damage during the proceedings. Then, an investigation by the European Commission proved that the company was paying Apple extra money for not buying contact modules from competing manufacturers. As a result, Qualcomm was accused of violating antitrust laws and fined one billion euros . The agreement between the companies lasted from 2011 to 2016 – after that Intel chips appeared on the iPhone.
