Soc-maker Qualcomm announced that its Snapdragon 820 will support Google Tango. Also future SOCS in the 800 and 600 series will be the technique, which, inter alia, advanced augmented reality makes it possible to support.

Along with the Snapdragon 820 is currently also the Snapdragon 652 suitable for use in smartphones with Google Tango announces Qualcomm. Soc latter is in the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro , the first smartphone with Tango support, which appears on the market in September.

Google and Qualcomm were already known to work together to support the technology in the socs, but it was not yet clear in which models support would be exactly there. Besides the Phab 2 Pro there are no other smartphones yet announced which feature Google Tango, but the announcement that the Snapdragon 820 is also supported now, may indicate that there will follow a new device with this high-end SOC aboard .

A present Google developer told Tweakers during the presentation of the Phab 2 Pro beginning of June, that in theory each soc-maker support for Tango may be added, provided that the chip is in a position to the data from the many cameras and sensors which are necessary for the technique to process quickly. According to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon socs can every 50ms read out the data from the sensors.

Devices with Google Tango use a gyroscope, accelerometer and three camera sensors including a fisheye camera for motion detection and a depth camera. The data from these sensors Tango smartphones to determine their precise location in space, much more accurate than what is possible with only GPS.
