Qualcomm comes with Snapdragon 1100 SOC for wearables

Qualcomm has announced a new SOC for wearables, the Snapdragon 1100. It is intended for small devices that do not have a large battery. It complements the Snapdragon 2100, which was presented in February.

Qualcomm indicates that the new soc is for watches children and the elderly, fitness trackers, headsets and other accessories for wearables. Thus it is suitable for devices with a well-defined purpose and must provide users with longer battery life and expanded connectivity.

Thus, the chip includes a modem with support for 4G and can connect via bluetooth and wifi. Also, this 40 percent smaller than the QSC6270 processor and SOC can sustain up to seven days’ standby LTE, ” says Engadget. It is also possible for users to determine their location with multi-GNSS and the Snapdragon 1100 features an integrated processor for Linux applications.

In addition, the chip has a secure environment on board and makes use of a hardware crypto graphic engine. It runs on an ARM Cortex-A7 processor with a single core, as is apparent from an image of Heise.
