Qualcomm introduces a Development Kit for a smart audio headset with integrated support for voice assistant Alexa. The reference model should lead to more bluetooth ears coming onto the market with support for Amazon’s Alexa.

The reference model that Qualcomm introduces uses its own bluetooth audio soc, the QCC5124. The earphones noisecancellation and Qualcomms also support their own aptX-HD and TrueWireless Stereo bluetooth audio codecs. The product would support a long battery life, although no specific time duration is mentioned. If users have the Alexa app on their paired Android phone, they can turn on the voice assistant with a single press on one of the two ears.

The Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit protocol is supported as standard, so that manufacturers do not have to integrate their products separately and only provide bluetooth support. The idea is that they save time and can focus on the design, the software and any other functionality. That should lead to relatively quick product releases.
