Qualcomm provides guarantee of 1.34 billion euros

for German sales ban iPhones
Qualcomm continues to enforce a ban on the delivery of iPhones in Germany. The manufacturer has deposited a collateral of 1.34 billion euros for such a ban, as the court claimed.

According to German media such as Focus , Qualcomm has reported that it has invested 1.34 billion euros as a guarantee and has thus set in motion the sales ban on iPhones in Germany. The ban concerns the sale of the iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus and 7 Plus in Germany.

The court of Munich pronounced the ban in a judgment on December 20, with the proviso that Qualcomm had to deposit a guarantee of 668.4 million euros per part of the ruling. It is still unclear what the scope of the ban is. Apple pulled the relevant models from its own fifteen German stores, but Qualcomm believes that all suppliers must stop selling the devices.

The ban is the result of a patent case won by Qualcomm. The court of Munich went along with the claim that a chip in the iPhones infringes on a hardware license from Qualcomm. Apple appeals against the ruling. The iPhone Xr and Xs are not covered by the ban.
