Qualcomm has responded to Apple’s allegations made in a US lawsuit filed in January, saying the latter violated its agreements and encouraged organizational attacks on its work in various jurisdictions around the world by making false statements.
Apple has filed a lawsuit accusing Qualcomm of asking for more than royalties and refusing to pay about one billion US dollars of promised rebates. The suit came days after the US government accused the chipmaker of resorting to anti-competitive tactics to maintain the monopoly of key semiconductors in mobile phones.
Qualcomm said in a statement on Monday: “Apple has launched a global attack on Qualcomm and is trying to use its enormous market power to impose unfair and unreasonable licensing conditions on Qualcomm.”
Qualcomm filed a counter-suit against Apple’s lawsuit at the US District Court for the Southern District of California, saying in a statement Apple had entered into agreements with licensees who make iPhones and iPads.
Qualcomm also said Apple had threatened to try to prevent it from making any general comparisons of Qualcomm’s superior performance on the iPhone. It also misrepresented performance differences between iPhone devices using Qualcomm modems and those using rival modems.
In response to Qualcomm’s statement, Apple said it reiterated its comments in January that Qualcomm was overcharging and gaining Apple’s non-Qualcomm patents.
In January, Apple filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm in Beijing, alleging that the chip supplier misused its chip industry and sought one billion yuan ($ 145.32 million) in damages, according to the Beijing Intellectual Property Court.
