The Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced version three Model B of the small Pi computer. Raspberry Pi Model B 3 contains a 64-bit quad-core and support for WiFi and Bluetooth, while the form factor and the price remained unchanged compared to the Pi 2.

The processor of the Raspberry Pi 3 offers ten times as much power as the Raspberry Pi 1 and the increase on the Raspberry Pi 2 would be about 50 to 60 per cent, claims the foundation, which has measured the results with Sysbench. Pi 3 has BCM2837, Broadcom chip with clock speed of 1.2 GHz, support for 64bit and four cores based on ARM’s Cortex A53. In the basis of the SOC architecture is not much different than that of the chips of the predecessors to the compatibility with the Pi 1 and 2 is guaranteed.

Also new is the presence of the BCM43438: bring a chip that supports 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 to 3 Pi. In spite of this addition, the form factor is substantially not changed. “The only change is the position of the LEDs, which to the other side of the SD card socket moved to place the antenna,” reports the Raspberry Pi Foundation. In the coming months should Compute Module 3 versions appear BCM2837-soc. Information on the Pi 3 came Saturday already out.

The connections are located on the same sites as in the Raspberry Pi 2. Who usb accessories hanging on the minicomputer, had better use a 2.5A power supply, the advice is the new Pi. The foundation will provide the older versions alongside the new. The MSRP of the PI 3 is $ 35, the same as those for the Pi 2, which therefore provisionally receives no price reduction. The A + model continues with a price of $ 20 a cheaper entry-level model and the foundation expected later in 2016 a ‘Model A’ variant to produce the Raspberry Pi 3.
