Razer releases Android 8.1 update for Razer Phone

Razer has released the update announced at the end of March to Android 8.1 Oreo for his Razer Phone. According to the manufacturer, the update is now available, making it available to everyone in the coming weeks.

Razer reports that the update to Android 8.1 Oreo entails a clearer design, system improvements and the Dolby Atmos app. In addition, Razer adds support for the Netflix widget and passes through multiple security patches and bug fixes. Furthermore, playing games with a refresh rate of 120Hz would have been improved, as would the hdr display of images in Netflix. It is not clear on which points these functionalities have exactly been improved.

According to the Wccftech website, in addition to the standard updates of Android 8.1, the update also introduces a new color mode for the screen, with which the panel can display an unspecified percentage of the dci-p3 color space. In addition, the screen can be pressed twice to turn off the screen.

At the end of March , Razer announced that an update to Android 8.1 would follow in April, but no exact date was announced. The manufacturer first planned to release an update to Android 8.0, but this has been skipped to be able to offer Android 8.1 directly to users of the smartphone, which distinguishes itself with a 120Hz screen. The Razer Phone came out with Android 7.1 in November last year and still played that version of the software so far.
