RED Announces’ instap’ video camera for 5k images to

The American manufacturer announces the RED Scarlet-W a relatively inexpensive 5k-camera. The “brain” with 13.8-megapixel sensor costs 10 040 euros. It remains to be invested in a variety of extras to make the device ready for use.

RED place in the Scarlet-W a super35mm-CMOS sensor with dimensions of 25,6×13,5mm. That is similar to the APS-C format of many SLRs. The chip has a resolution of 13.8 megapixels and can thus capture movie files with dimensions of 5120×2700 pixels. The dynamic range is, according RED more than 16.5 stops, like the other cameras of the brand that are equipped with a RED Dragon sensor. The manufacturer focuses cinema camera on the professional market.

In 5k resolution can be filmed at a rate of up to 48fps. At lower resolutions, the rate goes up to 300FPS in 2k format of 2048×864 pixels. The RED cameras capture images in the RedCode, a compressed raw format.

RED delivers his cameras as separate module, which must be supplemented with various accessories such as an electronic viewfinder, LCD, storage module, power supply, lens mount and handles. The total cost can therefore be very high. RED also sells packages with necessary accessories. A scarlet-W with basic necessities and Canon EF lens mount is 14 635 euros. According RED is the brain of the Scarlet W available from February 2016 and the complete packages will be delivered from March next year.

The Scarlet W is not the cheapest camera from RED. Earlier, the company announced the Raven to. The “brain” of this model with 4,6k sensor receives a prize of 6000 euro and for pre-order at this time.
