In the first two months of the second quarter of 2017, the number of downloads of Snape Chat decreased by 22% over the same period last year, which clearly indicates that Facebook has really achieved its goal of getting users out of the application.

Instinet’s report showed that the weak social network performance for the quarter contrasts Snape’s growth in the previous quarter, with application downloads up 6%. One of the main factors behind the dramatic drop in application downloads is believed to be due to the large drop in the number of iPhone users who download Snape Chat.

Year-on-year, Snape has seen a 40% reduction in app downloads among users of the OS, which has long been the target audience of the social network, according to a report released Wednesday.

It is widely believed that the recent efforts of Facebook and its subsidiary Instagram by copying the benefits of Snap Chat may have contributed to reducing the number of downloads of Snape Chat. The Instagram stories have outperformed Snape in terms of daily users, with more than 200 million users compared to 166 million.

The drop in app downloads comes this quarter as advertising spending slows down as part of the overall seasonal advertising market trend. Thus, the drop in app downloads and lower ad spending in the current quarter could have a significant impact on the financial performance of the social network in the second quarter of this fiscal year.

In an effort to increase the number of active users, Snape Chat is reported to be working to improve its application performance on the Android operating system. The Snape Chat application on Android has long been plagued by lack of improvements, slow performance and stability problems, resulting in low levels of engagement among Snape users who own Android phones.

The problems surrounding the application of Snape on Android also contributed to the weak growth in the number of users in markets outside the United States, where Android is the most popular mobile operating system.

Given the small number of Snape downloads among IOS users for the quarter, it is believed that Snape Chat should optimize the application on Android not only to increase user engagement but also to increase application downloads among the most popular mobile operating system users in the world.
