Research: The Netherlands is a leader in using internet banking in Europe

Dutch make compared to other European countries the most use of Internet banking. A survey shows that 83 percent of Dutch people over the internet does his banking.

Compared with the Netherlands scoring the surrounding countries lower with the use of internet banking. Of the surrounding countries the UK is in second place with 77 percent, followed by France with 63 percent and Germany with 62 percent. That writes Emerce according to a study by research firm YouGov and money transfer platform Wise.

There is the respondents who are not online banking asked yet what keeps them. That appears to be the lack of personal contact. Nearly a quarter of Dutch respondents who are not online banking, says prefer to speak with someone.

Traditional banks are often used, but part of the Dutch is open to alternative providers. Of respondents said 35 percent are inclined to switch to fintechbedrijven if they can prove that they are cheaper than their current bank. At the same time 27 percent said they do not intend ever to switch to a fintechaanbieder. Fintech is an acronym that stands for financial technology; fintechbedrijven offer innovative financial products and services that simplify the way we handle money and accelerate.
