Researchers show origami robot




Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have shown themselves robot folding a heating element. Then swim or move the little robot reproduces by an externally generated magnetic field.

Steering is achieved by the magnetic field generated by changing the electromagnets beneath the surface.

The advantage of a robot in this way folded above a flat device is that it is also working on a water surface. When the device is ready, it can simply be thrown in acetone. The robot then dissolves itself in, only the magnet remains. In the future, the outer layer of the robot has to be made of a material that dissolves in water. The researchers also want to integrate sensors in the robot so it can operate autonomously. Eventually they see applications for their discovery of the human body.
