Speaking to students of marketing at the University of Arizona (USA), a former booster Apple Ken Segall (Ken Segall) revealed some previously unknown details regarding the naming for iPhone. As it turned out, the popular smartphone today could be called differently.
Apple initially considered several variants of the name iPhone: «Telepod», «Mobi», «Tripod» and, strange as it may sound, «iPad».
According to Segal, «Telepod» sounds futuristic, and is perceived as a synonym for the word “phone”. Besides particle «pod» indicates a connection with a line of music players iPod.
«Mobi» – a shortened version of the word «Mobile». Marketers Apple entered into «Tripod» three words: “phone + iPod + Internet.”
