Revenues from streaming in the Netherlands is approaching that of CD and vinyl
Revenue from streaming for the Dutch music industry in 2015 with more than 38 percent to 61.3 million euros. Thereby putting music companies almost as much for streaming as with CDs and vinyl.
Where the turnover for the Dutch music industry stream in 2012, was still close to that of downloads, which crept into the sales of physical media such as CDs and vinyl in 2015. Revenues from downloads declined in 2015 compared to 2014 by 23.3 percent and now stands at 10.7 million euros.
Revenues from streaming on the other hand increased by 38.3 percent to 61.3 million euros. Interestingly, the revenues have increased from physical carriers compared to 2014 by 2.3 percent. The reason is the revival of vinyl sales, claims NVPI Audio, the industry representative of the Dutch music market. Meanwhile it 14 percent of sales of physical formats coming from vinyl.
Despite the strong sales growth of streaming services, NVPI reiterates that called useruploaded services like YouTube, according to them is not enough to pay the music companies.
