Roborace autonomous racers will use Nvidia Drive PX 2 system
The electric racing cars that will participate in the Roborace be equipped with Nvidia’s Drive PX 2 system. Hardware racers must autonomously compete on the track for a podium spot. While speeds would reach up to 300km / h.
Nvidia made during the GPU Technology Conference is known that its PX Drive 2 system for autonomous driving will supply the Roborace. That championship was already last year announced by the organizers of the Formula E.
The futuristic looking cars that compete in the Roborace made by Kinetik and are not equipped with a seat. Indeed, there is no driver in the car; it is a championship for autonomous racing cars.
The races should take place prior to the races of the Formula E Championship. That would be done during the season 2016/2017, but it is unknown when the first Roborace will be held.
Nvidia has been working a long time on the Drive PX system which cars themselves have to carry out tasks. For the current implementation the company uses a Tega X1 soc Maxwell GPU, but the Drive PX 2 system gets newer hardware with a GPU based on the Pascal architecture.
