Robot-octopus swims like real squid

Researchers from the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas from Greece have developed a wireless robot that shows many similarities with a swimming squid. The robot can be used for ocean surveys. Possible in the future

The research team did last year researching a robot octopus, so reports Cnet. However, the device had solid tentacles, making it looked stiff and not much speed to develop. In the new project, flexible silicone used in place of solid materials. There are also added to a type of webs which are fitted. Between the tentacles The robot can thus move more water and develop more speed twice. With undulating movements of the robot-octopus is moving forward, in a manner that is similar to its natural counterpart .

The robot was tested in the laboratory and in the Aegean Sea. On a film you can see how the robot being chased by some fish. That could mean that according to Cnet robot octopus in the future can be used for ocean studies, because the device has no repellent effect on the fish for example. In addition, the robot would be able, just like a real octopus, in order to carry objects. That object can perhaps a camera.
