Roscosmos is planning to build the world’s largest carrier rocket





Officials of the Federal Space Agency Roscosmos held on January 28 in Moscow’s annual conference on the development of the space industry announced that the agency is planning to build the world’s largest missile capable to orbit our planet more than 150 metric tons.

Announcement made by the head of Roscosmos Oleg Ostapenko, who took office in October last year. Oleg said that the first version of a new rocket will be able to lift 80 tons into orbit a payload. However, future versions will be able to lift into orbit twice the payload.

According to experts, this feature is especially useful for manned missions to Mars and the moon. The most severe variant rocket will be able to raise eight times more cargo than it is now capable of the worst option rocket “Proton”.


The previous record for the largest ever built missiles while still owned by the carrier rocket “Saturn 5” space agency NASA, astronauts delivered the command “Apollo” on the moon. Its maximum capacity is 120 tons. Besides, now in the United States developed extra heavy rocket Space Launch System (Space Launch System), which will be able to raise from 70 to 130 tons of payload into orbit.
