Apple might be in talks with automaker McLaren to take over the company. McLaren value would be between 1.2 and 1.75 billion euros, reports the Financial Times. The deal is still pending, the newspaper said.

It would have been Apple that McLaren has approached, writes the Financial Times. A takeover would want to get Apple’s in-house expertise to build cars. The rumors go for some time that Apple is working on a self-propelled car. The most concrete indication of this is an investment earlier this year in Didi Chuxing. Apple put a billion dollars into the Chinese Uber competitor.

The talks were started a few months ago. Apple would take charge to accelerate the development of his car. McLaren makes cars and also runs his own team in Formula 1. The acquisition would involve the whole company. The automaker is currently a loss-making enterprise. Both companies have not commented on the rumor.

Update, 19:11: After McLaren had previously given no response, the automaker told Reuters denied it is in talks with Apple.
