Rumor: Apple makes buttons on Watch touch-sensitive

Apple plans to no longer “click” the physical buttons on the Apple Watch. Instead of pressing the buttons physically, the whole must become touch sensitive, which should facilitate production and require less space in the housing.

Apple Watch Series 3 The plans have not been made public by Apple, but a source tells Fast Company that a next generation Apple Watch will no longer receive physically compressible buttons. These solid-state buttons can therefore no longer move, and that should make the whole more solid and should also be easier in production. A physical push of the button would be simulated by haptic feedback. The ‘crown’ wheel on the watch would otherwise remain rotatable, despite the fact that it can no longer be physically pressed.

Other advantages of removing the physical pressure on the button is that the whole is easier to make watertight. Also, less space is needed for the buttons, and that could again benefit other parts, such as the battery.

Apple plans to implement the changes in the next generation of its smart watch. If it is not possible to implement the plans on time, it will be in a next generation that will be released in 2019, according to Fast Company. In a further future, an Apple Watch should come out that has no buttons at all, but the plans have not yet been worked out.
