Rumor: coming LG smartphone gets a case with screen in it

An upcoming LG smartphone has a case with a second screen in it, says Cnet. It is not about a foldable smartphone as other manufacturers are going to announce. It is unknown how the system works exactly.

It is still unknown what name the device receives, reports Cnet on the basis of an anonymous source. Cnet is considered to be reliable, although it is risky for a single source, because the information is then unchecked. The phone with ‘screen cover’ is one of several models that LG wants to show at telecom fair Mobile World Congress next month. The name is unknown at Cnets source.

It is also unknown how the system works. If the add-on has a screen, it will need to be powered and connected to the phone. This can be via a connection for add-ons, such as Moto Z telephones, the Essential Phone and the Red Hydrogen One, but that is not necessary. Power can come from a separate battery, while the connection can be wireless. LG previously had a system with modules with the Friends accessories for its G5 smartphone in 2015.

It is also unclear what the second screen is for. Users may then be able to use multiple apps side by side or watch a video with more screen surface. The South Korean electronics maker is also working on a foldable smartphone, which should come out this summer. LG has not responded to the rumor. On Wednesday it was announced that the manufacturer will release its top model V40 ThinQ in February in the Netherlands.
