Gigabyte is working according to a rumor on a GTX 1060 video card with 6GB gddr5x. So far, all GTX 1060 video cards have gddr5. The map would be based on the GP104 GPU, which also forms the basis for the GTX 1080, but then partly disabled.

According to VideoCardz , the design of the video card resembles that of a GTX 1080. If a GP104 GPU is actually used for a GTX 1060, a part should be switched off, or chips should be used that are partially defective and therefore can not be used as GTX 1080. The regular GTX 1060 has a smaller GP106 GPU.

Already at the end of 2016 there was a rumor that GTX 1060 video cards based on the GP104 GPU would be released. At the time there was no question of the use of gddr5x. It could be that it is a card developed specifically for the Chinese market. The GTX 1060 is popular in internet cafes. Earlier, a 5GB version of the GTX 1060 was released in China.

Current GTX 1060 video cards with gddr5 have a memory speed of 9Gbit / s. For the GTX 1080 Nvidia initially used gddr5x with a speed of 10Gbit / s and later versions with 11Gbit / s. The speed the gddr5x has on the alleged GTX 1060 video card is not known. Also, no details are known about the clock speeds of the GPU.
