Rumor: Intel has plans for acquisition chip designer Altera




Intel would have plans to take over Altera, a company engaged in designing chips for various industrial branches. It would mean a big acquisition: Altera is in fact worth billions of euros.

The rumors are coming from the usually well-informed The Wall Street Journal. According to sources, the business newspaper is possible to Intel’s largest acquisition since long time, but there is still no agreement reached. Altera would have a market value of $ 10.4 billion, converted about 9.55 billion euros. The Wall Street Journal also notes that Intel and Altera worked together for a long time.

Altera is best known as the designer of, among other processors for the industry. It is partly focused on companies in the automotive, medical and military industries. Processors are designed for mobile applications as well.

It is still unclear whether they actually come to a takeover. It is certain that Intel should explain a large amount on the table as in the Altera wants bodies. It is likely that Intel is considering a takeover to make more diversification in its product portfolio.
