According to a top executive of Penthera, a company that provides technology for downloading video streams on Netflix there is a possibility by the end of 2016 to save videos. This would make it possible to watch online videos.

Then Taitz, operations manager of Penthera, the ruling front Light Reading. “We know from industry sources that Netflix comes with this product. My expectation is that Netflix at the end of this year will offer a download-to-go option to its customers.” An analyst at Frost & Sullivan adds that the arrival of a download option at Netflix an ‘open secret’ within the streaming video community.

Last year, Netflix told Gizmodo found adding a download option for offline watching a good idea. An additional choice would complicate service for users, suggested a top executive of the company in an interview. On that view Netflix seems to have come back: in late April said CEO Reed Hastings in a call with investors that the company is open to looking at the idea of offline. An official confirmation about the arrival of such an option is not there yet.

Presumably, Netflix will have to make arrangements with distributors of films and series before the service they can offer to watch offline. It should be obvious that in any case the own productions Netflix are available for the streaming service comes with a download option.
