Safety personnel from the Dutch railway company NS all get a bodycam from the Dutch Zepcam. That is what the company has announced. Employees can turn on the camera if they think they are in a situation where it is necessary.

NS says that the cameras will record images and sound. Eighty employees have done a test with bodycams for six months, and several models have been tried out. According to the NS, they have, among other things, paid attention to wearing comfort and ease of use.

The NS will use the Zepcam T2 , a bodycam from a Dutch company from Zaltbommel. That’s a 115-gram camera with a housing of 72x56x24mm and the case has an IP65 rating and is therefore dust-proof and protected against water jets.

The camera has an angle of view of 140 degrees and can make videos in full-hd in mp4 format with 30fps. You can take photos with a maximum of 6048×4032 pixels. The camera has an infrared function for filming in the dark. The 3200mAh battery must have a battery life of seven hours while it can be on standby for nine hours.

According to the railway company, the bodycams have a de-escalating effect and a preventive effect also comes from. The carrier has not published any figures about the effect of the cameras in the test. However, NS says that 75 percent of the travelers are for the bodycams.

The images of the cameras could be used by the police and the judiciary in prosecuting people who commit criminal offenses in public transport, such as the use of force. Employees of the NS Service and Safety department respond to reports from, among other things, conductors about situations in trains and at stations where emotions are running high. NS employs 700 people at Service and Safety.
