Samsung acquires Spanish company Zhilabs for analysis of 5g networks

Samsung acquires the Spanish company Zhilabs, which specializes in analyzing network traffic using artificial intelligence. Samsung says it will do the acquisition to improve its 5g network technology.

Zhilabs was founded in 2008 and provides services to analyze and test networks. With the help of artificial intelligence, the company from Barcelona detects problems according to their own say and solutions are automatically implemented. Zhilabs has companies such as Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Vodafone and Telefónica as customers.

Samsung says it will take over the company to ease its transition from 4g to 5g network techniques and to offer analysis based on artificial intelligence for 5G networks. Financial details about the deal have not been disclosed. According to Samsung , Zhilabs continues to operate completely independently after the acquisition, with its own management.

The acquisition is part of the investment plans announced in August. Samsung then said that it invested 19.2 billion euro in growth markets such as artificial intelligence, 5g and technology for autonomous cars. Samsung uses 5g not only on smartphones, but also on applications for autonomous driving, internet of things and robotics. The company wants to invest aggressively in order to become a major player on the market for 5g chipsets and related equipment.
