Samsung Galaxy S7 edge: on the brink of interest
Also this year Samsung again comes with a variant of his Galaxy S-class phone which is provided with a curved screen. The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge has a different approach than the S6 edge. For he does not have the same screen size as the regular S7, but a considerably larger screen. Like last year, the differences are further minimized. Therefore, we discuss in this short addition to the S7-review of the elements that are different than the at S7. So read the above review of the Galaxy S7 , if you want to know all about the common affairs.
Display and Design
The screen is the most eye-catching modification of the edge with respect to the ordinary S7. He is 0.4 inches significantly larger than the display on the S7, and therefore amounts to 5.5 inches. The resolution is the same and has 2560×1440 pixels, which corresponds to a pixel density of 534ppi. Also on the edge, you can not see individual pixels and the screen is so razor sharp.
Given the results of our screen tests Samsung has adjusted the scenes of the S7 and S7 edge comparable. The color temperature is reasonably similar and the differences in measured average greyscale and color error are not startling. The edge is a little brighter, but that’s a difference that is within the margin of error in our screen test.

Left: left to right. S6 edge, edge S7, S6 + edge. Right: the commandments edge of the edge screen.
The edge of the screen is of course not only larger, the edge takes its name from the curved edges to the side of the screen. It looks luxurious, but the S7 now has a curved back, making the difference in the luxurious look in our opinion has become somewhat less between normal and edge version. Because the bent edges on the front side, the edges on the back at the edge are less curved. Where the edge some less good last year held that the side was thinner, is again the case. Yet he insists something finer than the S6 edge, because it is still slightly bent. Yet we find the usual S7 through the more curved edges at the back which are in better hands.

Above you can see a table of the size and weight of the S6, S7 and S7 edge. The figures of the edge you see that by the 5.5-inch screen is itself larger than the usual S7, but falls in relation to it. He has more screen relative to the rest of the surface at the front. He is also a sliver thinner, although that is almost imperceptible. It is also remarkable that he is not much heavier than normal S7.
The rounded edges of the screen are not only an aesthetic function, but also a practical one. You can swipe in from the edge to edge display the menu. The software has been extended for the S7 edge. So you can now display 10 apps on the edge side. Also, there is now Task Edge. It lets you launch an app with a single press of a button and activate a specific function within that app. So you can set a shortcut for taking a selfie, or go directly to your alarm clock to go instead of first at your clock and then the alarm clock function.
A further useful feature is that you can set favorite widgets for example, work and home. The widgets can be displayed automatically based on location information. Also, there are set a lot more edge apps such as your favorite contacts, a compass and the weather.

In practice we use the edge features but few honestly. Yet this does not automatically mean that they are unnecessary. We ourselves have our mannerisms all to quickly launch commonly used applications for example, and the speed gain is simply not very big by doing things over the edge menu. Yet, if you yourself learns the edge functions certainly are a fine way of working.
Another difference with the ordinary S7 is the battery capacity. The ordinary has 3.000mAh, but the edge whopping 3.600mAh. It is, therefore, a larger piece, but does have to send out to the same number of pixels. We ran our battery tests and put the difference at a glance between the two new Galaxy handsets.

Where is the S7 is already a very good tests, the S7 edge goes a step further. We were almost out of time with this review, because the video test was still not over and we still wanted to see things on the edge. In practice, it goes a long way in our experience, though two whole days a bit tight sometimes. Or load the edge just like the regular S7 pretty quickly. In just over an hour he is in fact charged 80 percent.
For us it is strange to write a cup with performance in this addition review as you would expect the phones with the same chipset and drive pixels perform the same. Still, there are some consistent differences in performance. Normally a bigger phone with the same soc sometimes be slightly faster, because his heat through the larger casing better can lose and therefore can suffer less from throttling.
In this case, however, it is the other way around. Our review copy of the Edge performs slightly worse than the regular S7. The difference is up to 10 percent, which can be a little goodwill attributable to a blue moon chip at the edge. One chip is the other does not, even if it involves the same chip type, and performance differences may therefore exist. These benchmark results are obviously tough numbers, but in practice can actually make a difference.

The question is whether the curved edges of the S7 edge are worth to pay 100 euros more. That depends largely on personal preference and budget. At the time of writing, the suggested retail price 799 euros, which is approximately the level of the iPhone 6s Plus and thus he falls in the highest price range.
Still, it’s more interesting than last year so as to think that the EDGE version is right for you. First, the screen is bigger, as some would prefer. You also have the edges with additional software functions, depending on personal preference may add value. And then there is the battery life, which nevertheless is slightly longer than the normal S7. Where the edge version of last year with the same screen size as the S6 cost 150 more, the difference is now only 100 euros. Last year we found the edge version is not so interesting, but it depends more on the brink of interest.
