Samsung JS9500 UHDTV preview – Hdr and more color thanks to quantum dots

On a Samsung-organized pool party in Las Vegas prior to CES, the Korean company said that nearly half of the UHDTV’s sold by the brand now has a curved screen. According to the television manufacturer’s share of TVs with curved screens will only increase and so it was not surprising that the new top model, which was first shown to the press at the event was provided with a curved screen.

The JS9500 uses a backlight with quantum dots so the TV has a couple of interesting new features. Thus, the new backlight makes it possible to display a larger color palette, with its brightness again roughly twice as high as in the models of the previous year. The backlight of the JS9500 is the so-called full-array local dimming- type that the image contrast is increased.

The energy saved in turn darker portions of the image in the bright areas can be increased locally brightness extra. This may reflect the JS9500 images with high dynamic range. Thus, it is thus possible, for example in order to give some parts of the picture, for example the reflection of the sun in a shiny car, extra-clear again which makes the image look more realistic.
