Samsung researchers improve capacity lithium-ion batteries




Researchers have found a way for Samsung to work to build the capacity of conventional lithium-ion batteries to increment. They used before a silicon anode where layers of graphene are overlaid.

The way to generate a higher battery capacity by the scientists was published in the scientific journal Nature Communications. According to researchers, it is possible to improve the widely used lithium-ion batteries by using an anode which is constructed with silicon. There must then be superimposed layers of graphene. Then it provides a greater energy capacity and longer battery would have to go along.

Tests Samsung proves that such a battery at its first charging cycle has a capacity that is 1.8 times higher than conventional lithium-ion models. Thus, the battery life of devices could therefore be considerably extended. At the 200th cycle, the charging additional capacity had decreased to 1.5 times that of a conventional battery.

It is unclear whether and when Samsung expects to deploy the new battery technology in practice. It is yet a concept which comes from the labs of the manufacturer, which is likely to need much development before it is commercially available yet.
