Samsung shows new associate professors TVs with quantum dots




Samsung at CES in Las Vegas new associate professors TVs shown that use a backlight with quantum dots. This gives the new associate professors models a higher maximum brightness and can display a wider color range.

The new models with quantum dots are called Samsung ‘suhd TVs. Competitor Sony was already using a backlight with quantum dots in the Triluminos models and LG makes some 2015 TVs using this technique. The top model from Samsung, the JS9500, has a curved screen and uses a direct-type LED backlight with local dimming. Samsung did not say how much individual zones the backlight, but was told that it varies by screen size and that there are “hundreds.”

Even the slightly cheaper, and also bent JS9000 model uses quantum dots, but has an edge-lit panel. According to Samsung, almost half of all the company sold associate professor TVs a curved screen and it is expected that the share of curved TVs will continue to grow in 2015. The Korean manufacturer will also be a flat model make UHDTV, the JS8500, with quantum dots and an edge-lit panel, but direct LED with local dimming will only be available on the curved UHDTV programs. The new models will begin shipping in the second quarter.
