Samsung starts mass production efficient PCI-E SSDs for Ultrabooks




Samsung has started mass production of energy efficient PCI-E SSD’s that are interesting especially for thin notebooks. The SM951 could achieve sequential read and write speeds of 1.6 and 1,35GB / s.

According to Samsung, the SM951-SSD, which uses 10nm MLC NAND flash, both in a PCI-E-3.0 as a PCI-E 2.0 slot pricked. With the specified sequential read and write speeds of 1.6 and 1,35GB / s via the PCI-E 2.0 interface, the SSD is about 30 percent faster than its predecessor, the XP941-SSD. The number of IOPS amounts 4KB random read and write 130,000 and 85,000 respectively.

Besides high speed is the new design according to Samsung SSD considerably more economical. Thus, the SM951 consumes only 2mW in L1.2 low power mode, compared to the 50mW older L1 saving mode. Also, during read and write, the SSD up to 50 percent more fuel efficient than existing SSD designs.

Samsung will release the SM951-SSD with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB of storage, all in a form factor m2. The six gram SSD will be especially thin laptops used according to the Korean electronics company.
